Translation aids
Since 1984, the Ministry of Culture and Sport has been running the Programme of Grants for the Promotion of Translation into Foreign Languages to contribute to the knowledge abroad of Spanish literature, both classical and contemporary. In these almost four decades, these grants have proved to be an extremely effective instrument to encourage the international dissemination of written cultural heritage.
Within the framework of Spain’s participation as Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2022, AC/E launched in 2019 a programme to promote translation in order to contribute to the dissemination of the Spanish literature on the international market.

Books from Spain is a platform dedicated to promoting the sale of translation rights for Spanish titles in all official languages as a part of the project Spain Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2022.
Translation residencies On
the way to Frankfurt
On the occasion of Spain’s participation as Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2022, Acción Cultural Española and the Goethe-Institut Madrid are jointly organising a programme to foster translation. Three residencies will be held throughout the year with the aim of promoting the dissemination of Spanish works, enhancing the quality of their translations and strengthening the links between cultural institutions in Germany and Spain.

Among the actions to promote the sale of rights and translation of our authors in all Spanish languages, a series of digital meetings are being held between Spanish publishers and others from strategic markets such as Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and the Netherlands.

During the celebration of the Madrid Book Fair, the organisers of #SpainFrankfurt2022 are planning a trip to Spain to bring German booksellers closer to the literary and publishing scene in our country.
