Petra Strien–Bourmer (Solingen, Germany, 1951) holds a degree and doctorate in Philosophy and Humanities. She gives classes in several German universities and has for a number of years worked as a translator of Spanish and Latin American prose and poetry.
She has also presented Spanish and Latin American authors at cultural institutions and on the radio. She runs translation workshops with Spanish and German poets, Poesie aus Spanien (Die Horen, 1991); with other professional translators, Du kamst Vogel Herz (Bibliothek Suhrkamp, 2004); and with students from the universities of Cologne and Kiel, the translation of the anthology Cuando va a la ciudad, mi Poesía (Sial, 2005).
She was a member of the jury of the Reina Sofía Prize for Latin American Poetry in the years 2009-2012.
She is co-editor and translator of a four-volume anthology of Spanish and Latin American poetry which is to be published by Beck in 2022.
She received the el Johann-Friedrich-von-Cotta Literature and Translation Prize in 2017 and was nominated for the Leipzig Fair Prize (2017) in the category of translation.
