Gustavo Guerrero

Gustavo Guerrero (Caracas, 1957) studied Modern Literature at the University of Paris III and received a doctorate in the Literary History and Theory from the School of Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (EHESS) in Paris. 

He is a professor at the Cergy-Pontoise University and a literary advisor for Spanish literature at the publisher Gallimard in Paris, where he lives. He currently runs the project Médiation éditoriale, diffusion et traduction de la littérature latino-américaine en France (MEDET LAT) in the École Normale Supérieure in Paris. He is also a regular contributor to the magazines Letras Libres, Cuadernos Hispanoamericanos and Encuentro de la cultura cubana.

He has published the books of essays La estrategia neobarroca (Edicions del Mall, 1987); Itinerarios (Monte Ávila Editores, 1997); Teorías de la Lírica (Fondo de Cultura Económica, 1998); La religión del vacío y otros ensayos (Fondo de Cultura Económica, 2002), a finalist for the Bartolomé March Literary Criticism Prize in 2003; Historia de un encargo: “La catira” de Camilo José Cela (2008), for which he received the 36th Anagrama Prize for Fiction; and Paisajes en movimiento, literatura y cambio cultural entre dos siglos (Eterna Cadencia, 2018).

As a poet, he has published La sombra de otros sueños (Fundarte, 1981) and Círculo del adiós y otros textos (Pre-Textos, 2006).
