Javier de Isusi

Cartoonist and illustrator

Javier de Isusi (Bilbao, 1972), a graduate in Architecture, writer and illustrator of graphic novels. 

After winning a number of awards in graphic novel competitions, Astiberri began to publish his Los viajes de Juan Sin Tierra, a tetralogy inspired in his own travels. It is made up of the following titles: La pipa de Marcos (2004), La isla de Nunca Jamás (2006), Río Loco (2009) and En la tierra de los Sin Tierra (2010).

On completing the saga, he began to work with Luciano Saracino as co-author of the collective graphic novel Historias del olvido (Dolmen, 2007-2011); illustrated the novel El retrato de Dorian Gray (The Picture of Dorian Gray) by Oscar Wilde; and drew Ometepe, a graphic novel written by Saracino, both published by Astiberri in 2012.

In 2015, CEAR-Euskadi published his Asӯlum, La divina comedia de Oscar Wilde (2019), which received the National Graphic Novel Prize 2020 and the Prize of the Asociación de Autores de Cómic de España (AACE); and Transparentes (2020), on the Colombian exile. All of the above are published by Astiberri.

His latest work, El mar recordará nuestros nombres (2021), is a graphic novel published jointly by the Ministry of Science and Innovation, the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and Planeta Cómic.
