Jesús Carrasco (Olivenza, Badajoz, 1972). He established himself with his first novel Out in the Open (Harvill Secker, 2015), which was one of the outstanding debuts on the international literary scene. It was awarded the Book of the Year Prize from the Booksellers’ Guild of Madrid; the Culture, Art and Literature Prize from the Fundación de Estudios Rurales; the English PEN Award and the Prix Ulysse for the Best First Novel.
Published originally in 2013, the novel was finalist for the European Literature Prize in Holland, the Prix Méditerranée Étranger in France, and the Dulce Chacón, Quimera, Cálamo and San Clemente awards in Spain. It was chosen as Book of the Year by El País in 2013 and selected by The Independent as one of the best translated novels in 2014 in the U.K. Out in the Open has been translated into twenty-eight languages and has been adapted for the cinema by Benito Zambrano.
His second novel, La tierra que pisamos (Seix Barral, 2016) was awarded the European Union Prize for Literature. Llévame a casa (Seix Barral, 2021) has received excellent reviews and is now in its fifth edition.
