Joan Yago


Joan Yago (Barcelona, 1987) is a playwright and artistic director at the Teatre Principal in Barcelona. 

He holds a degree in Directing and Playwriting from the Theatre Institute of Barcelona and is one of the founding members of the company La Calòrica, renowned for its committed, critical, and parodical theatre. 

He is the author of plays such as Els Ocells; Sis Personatges – Homenatge a Tomàs Giner, winner of the Critics’ Award for Best Play in 2018; Fairfly, for which he received the Max Award for the Best New Playwright (2018) and the Premi Butaca for the Best Text (2017); You say Tomato, winner of the Serra d’Or Critics’ Award for Best Theatrical Text (2016); Un lloc comú, which won the Premi Ciutat d’Alzira (2014); Bluf, which won the Premi Quim Masó (2014); Sobre el fenómeno de los trabajos de mierda (2015); Feísima enfermedad y muy triste muerte de la reina Isabel I (2020); Arbres, vodka i naus voladores (2020), and the recent De què parlem mentre no parlem de tota aquesta merda? (2021). 

In 2016, he published Follar (Edicions del Despropòsit), his first comic book in collaboration with the cartoonist Aarón Sánchez (Caspita).

He teaches writing at the Eòlia ESAD performing arts school and Sala Beckett’s Playwriting Workshop. He is also the creator and scriptwriter of the series Mai neva a Ciutat on IB3tv.
