Nino Haratischwili


Nino Haratischwili (Tbilisi, 1983) is an award-winning playwright, theatre director and novelist who has lived in Germany since 2003.

Her great family epic Das achte Leben (Für Brilka) (Frankfurter Verlaganstalt, 2014) has been translated into numerous languages, including into English as The Eighth Life (For Brilka) (Scribe UK, 2019), and has become an international bestseller.

She has received many awards for her work, including the Literature Prize of the Kulturkreis der deutschen Wirtschaft, the Anna Seghers Literature Prize, the Bertolt Brecht Prize and the Schiller Memorial Prize.

The Eight Life (For Brilka) has also been shortlisted for the Booker Prize 2020 and acclaimed by two of the leading German-language media, Der Spiegel and Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagzeitung, as the best novel of the year.
